COWIfonden is governed by a board of nine members consisting of a combination of appointed and elected individuals. As per Danish Company Law, six members are appointed. Two members are elected by employees in the Danish part of the COWI Group. Additionally, one member is elected by employees in the Swedish or Norwegian part of the COWI Group. Out of the six appointed members, four must have experience or a background in senior management positions within the COWI Group. The remaining two members are chosen from a pool of highly respected and independent individuals who are not affiliated with COWI.
Board members are eligible for re-election, but are to resign at the first board meeting of COWIfonden following the Annual General Meeting of COWI Holding A/S after the end of the financial year when they turn 70.
Annually, the Board holds four ordinary meetings.

Director of COWIfonden Office
Joan Maj Nielsen
The Director of COWIfonden office manages the daily administration with secretarial support.
The administrative processing of applications for donations is managed by the Director of COWIfonden office, who also may seek expert reviewers of proposals, when needed.
Qualified applications are assessed by an assessment committee set up by the board of COWIfonden. Applications are presented for the approval or rejection of the board of directors
